| Q. |
Can I use a
regular credit card? |
| A. |
We take all major
credit cards. InternetSecure.com
is the gateway which handles our credit card transactions. You
can find out more about them by visiting their website at
http://www.internetsecure.com. If you're not comfortable using a credit card, feel free to use PayPal to purchase your images. |
 |
| Q. |
Do I require any special
software to work with the images I download from retroclipart.com? |
| A. |
If you order the image in Jpeg format, you will be able to open it in any layout program on your computer. If, on the other hand, you choose EPS format, you will require a high end graphics program such as Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Fireworks, Flash or CorelDraw. If you do not have any of these programs, you will NOT be able to open EPS files. In this case, please choose the Jpeg (default) option in the drop down menu when you purchase your image. |
 |
| Q. |
Do you have
a minimum order (dollar amount)?
Once an order is placed, are the EPS files available for immediate
download? Or are they emailed? |
| A. |
There is no minimum
order. You can purchase a single image for $2.00 if you want.
Once you have completed your credit card or Paypal payment, you will be directed to the Downloads page. You will see a red link at the bottom, which you will click on
to download the image(s) directly to your desktop. |
 |
| Q. |
The thumbnail images in your
catalog are heavily watermarked. Will this watermark be removed
from the images I purchase? |
| A. |
The thumbnail images are "gift-wrapped"
to encourage users to purchase the images rather than download them directly from
our catalog. The images you purchase will be either high resolution jpegs or vector EPS files, and will of course be perfectly clear
with no watermarks. Download a sample
image. |
 |
| Q. |
Are there any volume discount
packages available to customers who purchase large numbers of
images? |
| A. |
Yes! Our permanently activated discount plan allows you savings of up to 50% when you purchase more than 20 images. Find
out more. |
 |
| Q. |
Do you sell any of this
clipart on CDs, or in bundled packages? |
| A. |
We are just about to make this entire collection available on CD. Find
out more |
 |
Q. |
I'd
like to use Retro Clip Art images on a product line I'm producing.
Do I have to pay royalties? |
| A. |
Yes, if you are using our images on products which are destined for resale, we will require
a licensing agreement. You can find out more about this in our usage
policies section, or you can email us at info@retroclipart.com. |
 |
| Q. |
Are Retro Clip Art images
rights protected? |
| A. |
We own the copyright to all
of our images. There is no restriction on the usage
of these images for advertising purposes, however If they are
being printed on products which are destined for resale, then a licensing
agreement will be necessary (see above). |
 |
Q. |
Are any of the
Retro Clip Art images available in any other clipart collections?
|
| A. |
A few images in our collection may appear similar to images offered in other collections, however the vast majority (over 90%) of our images can only be found here. Keep in mind that our images are interpretations of artwork from vintage printing plates, so although some of them may appear similar to images offered in other collections, once you examine them closely, you will see vast differences in the overall quality of the interpretations. Our artwork is far superior to any supposed "duplicates" which may appear elsewhere. |
 |
| Q. |
Are the Retro Clip Art images
true, authentic images from the '40s and '50s? |
| A. |
All of our images are our own
interpretations of drawings which were originally created by
artists who lived in the '40s & '50s. We do not sell
"neo-retro" images (images invented and drawn by modern
day artists.) |
 |
| Q. |
Are any of the Retro Clip
Art images available in color? |
| A. |
We only sell black & white
images, with no shading or graduated tones. Limited
printing techniques back in the '40s and '50s required that
artists during that era develop this highly simplified drawing
technique, but ironically, modern day artists actually prefer
this practical format, as it is much easier to integrate into
their design work, and it allows them to easily apply their own custom color schemes. It's a much more creative and fun process!
Color images on the other hand can be very restrictive to
work with. |
 |
| Q. |
Does RetroClipArt.com supply custom artwork? |
| A. |
Yes... constantly as a matter of fact. As full-fledged commercial illustrators, we will basically draw anything you require, in retro style, or in any style at all. For more information please contact us at info@retroclipart.com. |
 |
| Q. |
Why are all the people in your collection white? Why are there no black people? |
| A. |
Unfortunately the world was a much different place in the '40s & '50s. The "establishment" was run by narrow minded whites who paid commercial illustrators of that era to draw only white folk. Incredibly, they didn't see anything odd about that at the time. As a result, we are stuck with this artwork which contains no racial minorities. We have a plan to create afro-american versions of many of our images. We would like to begin this project as soon as we can fit it into the budget. |

| Q. |
After I have added an image to my cart, I find it difficult to navigate back to the catalog page where I was. Is there an easier way to get back to that exact page? |
| A. |
Yes! If you are having trouble navigating back to where you were in the catalog, there's a real quick an easy way to do it: Once you have added an image to your cart, simply press the browser "back" button twice, and you will wind up exactly where you left off. |
 |
| Q. |
Help! I have paid for my images, however when I click on the red link to download them to my computer, they simply appear as very large images in my browser window, instead of downloading to my desktop. What do I do? |
| A. |
This situation only happens to Mac users who are using the Safari browser. No worries though... it's very easy to fix! Just remember this rule of thumb: if you are seeing the large scale image in your browser window, that means you already have it on your computer. All you have to do is right-click on the image, and in the pop-up menu which appears, choose "Save Page As" to download the image to your desktop. If you're one of those folks who still uses a single-button mouse on your Mac (like back in the '90s), then holding the Control key while you click on the image will give you the same menu. |
